convict cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
with provided cover and plenty of hiding places and if she is about the same size i usealy go with a slightly bigger female but it should be good

Put an egg crate divider in the tank, or put the male in a small basket. Wait until the female shows interest in breeding (very round belly and breeding tube showing).

Is there anything else in the tank? If not, the cons' breeding "schedule" has to be TOTALLY matched up or there will be friction eventually. Always better to have some dither fish in there to divert the cons aggression. Try some cheap danios, tetras, or livebearers.

mixing convicts, u do not need a divider. Make sure the female is not too small for the male, best if female is same size. Also i recommend few females, let them all pregnant at once!!

I have a male and a female in a 14g grow out.

So far I've had absolutely no problems with them in the slightest. If anything they are both extremely timid.

Did you start with both at the same time? The OP is asking about adding a female to an existing tank where a male has lived for a while.

i got two pairs and put in one of my tank, a 10 gallon, they must be about 1.5 inches the female has a orange belly, donno when they will start breeding, want to pair out to a single successful pair.

when my male convict killed his female i got a new 1 i took out the male and rearranged his tank and then reinterduced them at the same time try that out if all else fails

Just make sure the female is of the same size as the male, or larger. Provide plenty of hiding spots/caves for her to hide in and you should be fine.

**And if you are going to add a female, make sure to rearrange their environment so there is no aggression.
