Lol many have tried, the majority will probably tell you its a bad idea; convict are notoriously good survivors, which means a tank overrun by convicts before long.

The only way I use convicts and other hybridized cichlid fry as feeders is having them in a bare feeding tank that I move the fish I'm feeding the feeders into instead of putting the smaller feeder fish in the display. Or else they end up either surviving and you've got little ones just to big and fast to catch all over the tank or a sump full of cons.

Happily I'm getting away from that I have one fl gar that is just about entirely off live food.

How many fry you will yield is dependent on the parents. I have a seasoned female who has well over 100 viable fry per clutch.

As far as them getting to big for food I think you'll get about 7-9 weeks before they get smart and after that it's all size dependent on what is eating them.
