i am concidering buying a convict ciclid and dont really know much about them, it is about 3" in the shop how big do they get and are they gonna kill my gar? I have a paroon catfish but i think im going to return it as i was miss sold it. (they told me it was a hi fin silver catfish but i cant find anything about this fish) and it looks exactly like a paroon. Any info would be appreciated. The gar is a 3-4" spotted gar.

How big is your tank? A convict grows to 5-6" and can be real devils if they are a pair. A solo convict isnt as aggressive, but more or less lets fellow tankmates know who's boss. He wont kill your other fish.
convicts can be nasty buggers for sure. big bullies in a generally small package i had a little 2 incher that would stad upto my devils in the 250 before i moved some of the fish. granted the devil COULD have torn him to shreds if he wanted to, the con dident seem to think so. so that personality trait could be a bad thing depending on what tolerance level other fish you keep may have of it.
