Convict coloration question

I just got two convicts from my Petsmart today. I've had my eye on them for a while mainly because they are different.

My question is, will their coloration stay this way or will it change back to just stripes? (Even when stressed you can plainly see the black splotches)

Right now I can only get good pictures of the male, I'll try to get some of the female even though she has fewer splotches. They are only about 1"+.

As much as I would love to say they are calico, or whatever, I think that black spotting is a lot like what parrots go through....I think it may be because of high stress. I bought an identical female for the same reason, and she quickly grew out of it. In any case, keep us posted with progression pics if you can find the time

I've bought fish from petsmart for the same reason, they all ended up normal looking. Hope for the best though!
