i have heard that convicts are pretty mean but today my friend gave me a red zebra cause he got rid of his tank and i put him in my convict tank. (75 gallon). within a few hours of putting the zebra in the established convict tank, he beat up my breeding pair of cons. I know i should not mix africans with cons but i had no choice. the zebra would have been flushed other wise. I am dumb founded. (zebra is now at Petco). Anybody else find convicts to be push overs? im pretty mad about the situation.! poor cons...

The red zebra is one of the most aggressive mbuna. They work differently the ca/sa cichlids when it comes to stocking.

The zebra is just being a zebra. In mbuna tanks over stocking is done so that no territories are established and to spread the aggression. In ca/sa stocking is done in consideration of having territories being established. This is one of the many reasons why it is unwise to mix Africans with ca/sa tanks.

lol i knew it was bad to mix but dang... he beat up a breeding pair of cons. male was a little over 4 inches and female was about 3 inches. the zebra was a male and was around 4 inches. unfreaking believable!!!!

i see your point though. he was just being a zebra. i just figured the aggression in the tank would kinda equal out.
