At my desk
About a month ago i was browsing the fish section at the local petsmart and noticed a lot of movement in the tank with the cons.

upon inspection i found that there was a pair protecting fry in the tank. so i bought them, and a few others just to be sure i got the pair.

i put them all in a 70 gallon with lots of pots and deco and the pair laid eggs shortly after. i removed all the other cons and put them in other tanks. the eggs hatched and everything was going well until this past friday when the male started beating up on the female. I removed the fry hoping that would curb his aggression but it did not and i found the female dead on sunday.

the male is just about 2" and the female was 1.5"

Is this a common occurrence? What can I do to prevent this from happening in the future?

thanks

oh i didnt see the bit about the male killing her, ive never seen them be that aggresive to each other, I would do what camshaft suggested next time if you try again.

Had one where the female killed the male. It's hit or miss.

I have two pairs now and they get along fairly good. One of the males chases the female but nothing serious yet.

Next time take out male, not fry.

they had been working together so well just days before that thought never even entered my mind...

seems painfully obvious that thats what i shouldve done now that you mention it.

I will likely try again in the future.

Thanks for the replies.
