last week i got a new pair or cons and now 6 days later they laid eggs in a cave ive made. since i put them in i havent done a water change yet, i usually do 10-20% daily. i was thinking of doing a water change today but with this discovery im unsure.
so i was wondering should i still go ahead with the water change or when/how often should i do it? and how long after the fry are swimming should i do changes?

it shouldn't be a problem to do a water change. the parents may attack the hose or whatever you use, but it won't really interrupt their breeding/parenting. just stay away from the eggs. once the fry are free-swimming, it will be easier to avoid sucking them up if you place a net over the end of the hose. i would hold off on a gravel vac until they are a bit bigger. 30-50% a week should be enough, maybe twice a week once the fry start making things crowded. are you planning on raising them to feed the aro?

I'd go back to 10% daily. Just me

i never did water changes when they laid eggs, just left them alone to their parenting. when the fry were big enough to rear then i did the w.c's

yea half for the aros other half just to keep to send off to friends who were impressed how fast the cons mated.
btw anyone know how big i could keep the fry with cherry red shrimp until they start picking the shrimp off?

Thats a good question.. I would say you are the one to do this experiment and let us all know :)

I wouldn't leave them with the shrimp past 3/4 of an inch though.. but that is just me.

just don't go by them clean the rest of the tank.

30-40% water changes are plenty. If your nitrates are rising too high by the end of the week, then do 30% 2x weekly. But I highly doubt 2 convicts and fry would make nitrates rise too high in a 30G. Unless you overfed.
