dont b*tch at me for saying this. but is it healthy if i feed my fishes 1 month old convict frys. dont really wanna risk using feeders cuz of disease and parasites. so goin to use homeraised feeders.
as long as the baby cons are healthy and you've pumped them up with some good quality foods. there are a lot of people that raise their own feeders and convicts are used quite a bit because they breed so easily and, in most places, there's nothing else to do with the fry since they are a dime a dozen (not literally but you get the idea) at most lfs.
I wouldn't make them the primary diet of whatever you're feeding them too but they'll make a fine treat.
Safer than storebought, raise them to the size you want. Several people use/have used them. They are prolific and you can easily end up with excess so why not.
Used fry as feeders myself for quite awhile now and it seems like a nice treat for my Midas. They are just part of a varied diet and its pretty cool watching him go into "destroy" mode to catch fry when I usually hand feed him everything else.
It may seem mean to some people but not me, It would be a lot better than some diseased feeder goldfish thats for sure! just "gut-load" the little guys and they will make a tasty treat for your monsters!
