My 2" male convict has blue and yellow developing on his fins. Is this fairly normal or does it point hrp crossing? The kid at the lfs said it points to it being closer to f1. I kind of find that hard to believe but hey what do I know.
If you don't know the clear provenance of the fish, its almost impossible to tell what your fish is genetically. Convicts are actually spilt into four different species (nigrofaciatus, kanna, siquia, and coatepeque) and there are differences between the regional variants within each species. This isn't to say that there aren't some beautiful LFS convicts, as typically the best looking males and females have been bred to produce good looking fry.
