I have a pair of normal Convicts and they have about 100 + fry. My question is, can a normal pair have some pink babies? I'd say, somewhere slightly less than half have no color other than their eyes which are black. They've been free swimming since Oct. 31 so I don't think it's just delayed pigment production.

I've never bred Convicts and I haven't a clue how the color morphs work.

Thanks.
Joel

Yes i believe that many regular pairs may have one or two pinks and then if you breed those with others pinks or even regualrs they may have "marbles" and or more pinks.

I have my marble from breeding pinks, and if you dont mind me asking...do you pics? like of the tankand fry/parents?

I'm loading Adobe on my PC,,, They'll be up in a min.

Here are a couple pics. I've circled a few of the ones in question. There are many more. The adult is the father. I removed the Mom,,, I caught her filling her belly & no she wasn't moving them. She was striking and not spitting back out.

yes it is possible for the two normals to produce pinks, especially if somewhere back in their own lines they had pink parents/grandparents etc. the woman i got my 5 normals and 1 pink from had been inbreeding the same line for 4 generations, and each generation would get more and more pinks as sibling paired with sibling. in her most recent fry batch she had 75% pinks from 2 normal (sibling) parents who had normal (sibling)parents who had normal (sibling)parents who all came from an unlrelated pairing that produced about 4 pinks per batch of fry. on the other hand, she had about the same sucess rate ( making pinks) from the pink pairs she pulled from these pairings, with her latest pairing making about 75% pink.

on a side note, dont you love how you can see their little stripes so early?lol

Thank you.

Yes they are cute little guys with their strips. I guess they're not quite convicts just yet. They are still just little hoodlums.

congrats on the fry! as everyone said its perfectly normals. ur convicts parents might have been pink or one them migh have been pink.

most likly itss the dad that is carrying the pink genes as the males have more of a dominate culture over there genes then females do. so somewhere back in his genes ( maybe 1 or 2 batches ago ) so now its taking a tow on his frys now, if this makes since ima be happy. and most likly ull only obserb like 40% pinks as blacks are more dominate tho.
