So I just had a marbled convict spawn a week ako. A day after my marbles spawned my pink and black con spawned too. Now both batches of fry are free swimming. But my convict fry are larger than my marbled fry. Why is that? They're a day younger too.

My guess is genetics. You can have a whole hospital floor of women in labor who have varied baby weights. Nutrition also plays a factor also. Maybe the other pair eats more.

For my fry depends on parents and also just depends how much food they get. That's the biggest thing is how much food do they get or go.

temperature of the tank also is in direct relation to metabolism of the fish... so if each tank is at a different temp may be whats happening or genetics,

I'm guessing it's genetics or the temp. They eat the same amount and at the same time. It's just that the convict pair has a 10g (temporary) to themselves. And the marbled pair is in a 40g breeder which is a community tank.

The parents from both pairs were also the same size when I got them. But for some reason my pink/black pair is a little bit bigger.

I would understand if they spawned on the same day. But a whole day ahead? Probably more than a day. Yet the 2nd batch are still bigger.

Another question. Since I'm giving away my pink/black pair. Do you think the marbled pair will notice if I sneak in some fry from the other pair?

Ive never mixed fry before, you could try moving a small amount over a bit at a time and see how the adopted parents do. As far as size goes, I agree that genetics and temp play a big part. If one pair is in a community tank then stress will always be more of a factor for them than a pair that has thier own tank. That being said, did you notice a size difference in the eggs or the initial wrigglers? Could it be the larger fry were just laid as larger to begin with?

If the temp on the two tanks is the same, then we can rule that out as a factor. If they arent, try setting the temp on the 40g to the same as the temp on the 10g. When I was breeding convicts my tank temp was between 80-82, usually closer to 82, and they seemed to do well in that range
