Northern VA,
Hello all,

I am in need of advice. I noticed my convicts moving pebbles around out of their little cave. I assumed they were breeding but didn't expect it. I left town for the weekend, when I returned I looked into the tank and saw a bunch of little fry swimming around. Great i though but I have no idea on how to care for fry. I assumed my tank was all male. I have a variety of cichlids in there. 2 jds, 1 red jewel, 1 Red O, a "12" pleco. I am worried the other fish will eat the babies. I have a small 6 gallon tank But I have heard removing the fry from mother will not be a good idea and in a small tank like that they will get eaten.

I could buy a 20 gal but my wife doesnt want any more tanks in the house and quite frankly I don't have the space to accommodate another one.

I was thinking about a divider. More than likely I wont keep the fry and will just sell them or give them away, but i feel kind of responsible for them until they are able to fend for themselves. I have no idea on what to feed them or care for fry. Please help with any advice you might have.

Thanks in advance for your time and comments.

Petsmart has a small net cage you can buy for about $7. I have two of them. You assemble it in a couple of minutes, attach it to the inside of your tank, put your fry in and your set!

Congrats!

the in-tank net thing is a great idea i also used this same technique

I turned on the light this morning and i see no babies, Im assuming they were a late night snack for the tankmates. Oh well, this is the first time I had any babies. I might put the 2 parents in a tank and see if the wife will understand. Thanks for the advice, I'll keep it in mind for take 2
