Hi,

My female convict has laid eggs about 3-4 days ago.
We didnt expect this to happen because we dont have a male convict but have been told by the fish shop that our electric blue jack dempsey would have fertilized them.
They are an amber colour and we have moved them into a netted off area. (well what we could scoop up anyways) there are a few still in the tank which the mother is still guarding. We had to net them off as we also have an eletric blue jack Dempsey, an electric yellow, 2 clown loathed, a silver dollar, a pleco and 2 bristlenose, so we dont want them to get eaten.

How long will it take for the eggs to hatch?
Any other info would be appreciated.

Thanks

How big is the jack? Also if you shine light on the eggs do you see any eyes (reflection) ?

To be honest I'm not sure if a ebjd and con can hybridize. I know a regular jd and convict can but not sure about ebjds. They have such weak genes I doubt fry would even be viable. Can you post pics of the eggs.

Holy crap! I guess I was wrong. I would pull then and put them in a breeder box or net and watch them closer. This is a first for me. I would love to see how they develop

they are in a breeding net now. The fish shop told us to keep all the rocks with them so we dont move them around to much. Awesome Im excited now too haha. Do you know how long they take to hatch?

I would delicately remove all the rocks. The fry will get lost once they hatch and likely die. If you said it was about 3-4 days then they should be hatching either tonight or tomorrow. What's Your tank temp? Low 80s will speed up the process.
