Alright, I just moved my convict pair from their 10 gallon to my 55. They did have a fry in the 10 and I think I have about 100 fry. Well as soon as I moved them both to the 55 the male started chasing and nipping at the female. So I turned the lights off and plan on leaving them off for a few hours to see what happens. Anyone have any experience with this problem before? Any sugguestions?

For the lack of a beter definition he thinks that she is "responsible for missing fries". I wouldn't worry too much at this point. Just make sure that thee are plenty of caves in a 55 and they'll settle down on their own

Good to know! Are they going to do the same thing when I remove the fry from them?

Possibly... Best thing to avoid this is to either separate the parents or simply not to remove all of the fry -- leave 10-20 with them to protect and work as a team.

BTW, are there any other tankmates with them in that 55? If not do you plan on having any?

Nope, no other tankmates and dont plan on having any either. Would it help if I moved some of the fry over in with them?

Get some dither fish for the 55g. Maybe some Giant Danios.

Leave the fry where the wer originally :) They are most likely in mating ritual again if you only moved them:)

Leave the fry where they are you'll have more in a few weeks :)

Yeah this morning everything seems like it is getting back to normal. They seem to be swimming around with each other, just exploring their new home. So hopefully it wont be long and their will be a new batch of babies.

The babies are really spooky now that the parents arent in their with them. Anytime I walk the tank, or turn a light on in the room, they dart around and hide completely for a few minutes. Then they come back out in a huge pack.

I dont think it would be a good idea to put anything in the 55 with a breeding pair, I am sure whatever went in there would end up DEAD.

I've kept Tiger barbs as a dither for convicts in a 55 gallon. Went well the 5 tigers justkept to the opposite end of the tank, and the cons could never focus thier aggression on just one fish. I then added a second breeding pair to the 55 gallon, so the tiger barbs had no where to run and would just hide in the upper corners of the tank. They were then removed.

I like the dithers with the pair of cons, because it gives the parents something to protect thier fry from(so they think). Also there is a chance that the mother or father would start protection type aggression towards the other parent.

I would recomend a shoal of dithers. The 2 pair of cons in a 55 gallon will work while they are smaller but I can see problems arising as they get to thier adult size.
