I have two Female Convicts in a 20 gallon high. One of them (the larger one) is clearly dominant and pushes and chases the smaller one around. I was wondering if there were any fish i could add that would distract them from bothering each other. Or if adding a third female convict would do the trick? Also will the less dominant one not grow as much since it seems rather stressed out.

You could try a number of things. First I would make sure there is plenty of hiding places. Since it's a high tank make sure and get some plants or something that stretches to the top of the aquarium. My female convict spent her first two days hiding in the plants at the top of my aquarium while her tankmates got used to her presence.

Second, yes, add some dithers to your tank. Dithers give your convicts something to chase around and take out their aggression on. Usually for dithers people use more peaceful fish that are fast enough to get away in a chase like some tetras or small barbs.

You can also try rearranging some of your decor to mix up your cichlids "territories" a bit. Although since you only have a 20 gallon there isn't going to be much room no matter what you do.

The less dominant one will probably grow slower due to the fact that she won't be getting as much food as your larger convict.

So is it better to have two sets of decorations and plants, one on each side of the tank, or to build a wall of decorations and plants in the middle to act as a divider ? Also would some tiger barbs be alright as dithers?

how about you just take one back and pick up a male? problem soved...tanks too small for anything else

ps, no dithers is a good choice. you would need AT LEAST 3 tiger barbs but 5+ is prefered. convs are very strong and very fast fish. there simply isnt enough room for the fih to live comfortably. there are many other fish you can have unless you really want two female cons
