I recently got a what I believe is a female convict, but had a few questions:

Is it a female?
Is it actually a hrp (it’s fins are very blue and colorful unlike any convict I’ve seen before)?
It’s in a tank with a jd and bp, what are the chances of either pairing off with it if opposite genders?

Thanks in advance!

Looks female and looks like a Convict. The female Convict will have a reddish color on the body near the belly.

Indeed it does. Very small chance of it pairing with a JD, same goes for the blood parrot, smaller chance if there's a significant size difference, even smaller chance of eggs being viable if the JD and BP do happen to be male and they do happen to pair.

Thanks for all the info. I figured it was a female, and knew about the red bellies, but was surprised at all the blue (and half-hoping I could get a hrp for the price of a convict).

deff looks female to me, look for a reddish blotch bellyside at maturity

I’m glad I guessed right at the arrow then. Last thing I need is an 7 inch male Convict killing everyone else.

Looks like my female Convict I have, so i'm guessing female. Doubt it will breed with a Blood Parrot, or Jack Dempsey.

It is possible to have it cross with the JD but I've never seen a convict be able to breed with a BP. One general rule of thumb with convicts is that if there is no other convict available it will try to breed with most anything else that's ready and willing. I've even had my male convict try to breed with mbuna's before. Never got anything out of it of course but it was still interesting to whatch.

I was under the impression that while jellybeans are short body convicts, the polar blues were convict parrots?

Half correct. The jellybean parrots are just dyed, white short body convicts but the polar blue parrots are just regular, short body convicts.
