I thought i'd post this here since i've gotten little to no responce in the breeding and hybrid sections. I have a 80gallon tank that i just recently had a 4" Salvini and 3"Convict spawn and now i have about 150-200 fry. I removed the 5"Tiger Oscar, 3"JD, 3"Jewel into a 55.. My question is has anyone heard of this cross-breed before and what will they look like? Also would LFS be interested in such a hybrid? :headbang2

Nice! ... Please take pics!!! I don't know if an LFS would be interested in them, but you can try. Just make sure you tell them exactly what they are. I'm interested in them. :D

As soon as they are about 1" i'll take pics. 2 LFS that i've already contacted is more then interested in the fry once they hit 1.5inch. Salvini's and convicts are pretty popular in the pudget sound area so the get a hybrid with both of them should land me some dough but we'll see how things go. For right now they are in a custom 80gallon with 2 150watt stealth heaters, Magnum 350 & AC70 for filtration. I've started them off on Hikari "first-bites" which was recomended on a previous post (Thank You). Anyways has anyone else seen this type cross-breed?

u could always use them as feeders.

i went to a LFS and they were selling some kind of sa/ca cichlid hybrid..
the sign said..

"rare crossbreed" and they were freakin 9 bux a pop for little 1.5 inchers.. ripoff if u ask me. ugly little buggers too.

If they were just cons then i would use them as feeders but they are not. Its a very rare cross-breed that i have found nothing online of a record of this combo. So i'm very curious on how they turn out and so are my LFS.....

Hybridization in cichlids isn't rare. Infact its really common. I haven't successfully been able to do it, but every cichlid pretty much can be crossed, some harder than others. But unless you crossed like a convict and a whale it's pretty much not rare.

depending on the genetics of the con and the salvini the fry could develop in to quite attractive fish as adults. what they look like will be down to dominant and recessive genes.
They might be super aggressive as i know jd x con 's are evil little buggers, and salvini can be very aggressive.

as long as they are advertised as hybrids there is no problem for them to be sold.

They may be rare as in usually convicts breed with convicts in a typical situation regardless of wether there is other cichlids in the aquarium.

I would personally think that this hybrod has beenproduced before as neither species is exactly rare but you never know
