Convict showing odd colors

So I bought a convict about a month or so ago and recently she has been showing some strange colors I haven't seen before. Her fins have a lot of blue and her stripes rapidly change color from deep solid black bars to barely visible bars with distinct dots on her side within a few seconds. I'm wondering if maybe this is a hybrid? Or expresses some form of marble gene from a breeding experiment? Maybe both? What do you guys think?

My females do the same thing when they are looking to lay eggs. They get beautiful then become murder machines for a bit..

Interesting. The rapid color change is what really got me thinking maybe there is something up with the genetics

Maybe my firemouth and convict will breed... would be very interested to see how they turn out. Obviously I wouldn't let the hybrids leave my tank, just curious for myself

Yep, it's pretty cool to watch. I get entranced by what my fish can do. I start watching them, then next thing I know a few hours have passed.
