My pair of marbled convicts laid eggs, and the fry have been free swimming for a few days now. This morning I woke up to a splashing noise, the female was jumping out of the water to get away from the male who was beating the crap out of her. Her fins were ton and she was hiding behind some floating stuff not moving.

I put her in a guppy breeding container to keep her safe. When will I be able to safely put her in back in the aquarium? Any ideas why the male lost it all of the sudden? I have seen this kind of behavior with my Jacks when the babies are lost (my heater malfunctioned), but these fry are doing fine.

yeah my male killed my female. definitely a learning experience. I'm still too shaken up to try breeding cons again!

I have bred hundreds of pairs of cons. I have never had a male turn on the female post pardom...Everones experiences are different.

I had the same problem with my pair of regular convicts, but it was my fault for leaving them while I was on a business trip (for about 5 days). I imagine the female ate some of the fry out of desperation and the male turned on her. BTW both of these pairs are first time pairs . They are about 1 - 1.5", tiny.

Edit, the marbles are that size. The regular convicts were bigger.

most of the time it's the female that goes crazy, my female rainbow doesn't want anything to do with male after fry's start to swim. She kicks his @ss all over the tank.
