My convicts laid eggs and they ate them or the eggs died.

There are 5 in a 20 gallon and 4 paired off, did they eat them because it was too crowded in there and felt it was too hard to protect them?

Or do the first 5 breeds get eatin for like practice, should I get rid of 3 conviect that didnt breed or shall I take out the eggs the next time?

Could be both reasons ;)

Sometimes they just need practice.. A 20g for 5 cons is pushing it.. But I have seen much worse situations with cons breeding... :)

Well I got this one going now so ill add to it. You brought the other one back from the dead. ;) If you tell me how to delete it I will.

But all I have the convicts is to breed them for feeders, Do you think I should remove 2 or 3 and keep one pair. I think they would have less stress like that but I never kept convicts and maybe they like to fight.

If I do scoop them I have a smaller pair the first to lay eggs. And I have a larger pair in a cup thing in the tank I dont know if they laid yet, which should I remove???

I just want them like rabbits, know what I mean . :D

take out the fifth wheel. give a breeding spot like mug or a pot at either end and if they still have problems add at least a visual barrier in the middle. how big are they, i'm assuming under three inches. an adult pair should have their own 20 or preferrably 29. there's also the possibibility that you just had bad luck and got bad breeders, rare with convicts though as they are the rabbits of cichlids, in that case they may just keep eating their eggs. do you have a pleco in the tank? did the eggs go from clear to tan? did they ever get white at all?
all in all, they're convicts, don't try too hard. if they aren't doing it day and night somethings wrong.
good luck.

They sometimes eat the first batch or two. Pull any fish that aren't paired up and then maybe cut down to one pair. You will have more babies in no time.

Ok thanks.

No pleco, the eggs were like a brownish and about 3 got white, and I thought the white ones were the dying ones. There is a mugish object on both ends, I will take out the 5th wheel and maybe put up a barrier, if they keep sparring.

One pair the one that breed is under 3 inches and the other pair are over 3 inches. Advise on as should I keep the bigger pair or the smaller one?
