Can two male convicts coexist in a 55G as long as no female is present? This tank would also include 8 large Tiger Barbs as dithers.

Yes... I can't vouch for the health of the tails and fins on your Barbs, but the Cons should be fine.

once you get cons in a 55 or larger they tend to be alot more calm anyway. You could have 2 cons and then some of the smaller growing species like firemouths or something. there is a lot you could do with 2 cons and a 55gallon tank!
I think you should be fine. I am thinking of doing the same thing with my 55 gallon tank but I think I am going to get a pair of marbled cons and maybe a firemouth. Still in the planning stages though.
Alright, my current stock is a follows. 55G = 2 x male convicts, 8 Tiger Barbs, and one 2in Red Tail Black Shark (for bottom feeding). I am turning over 800GPH in this tank (2 x AC70's and 1 Penguin 200). My thought is to keep things as is, but wanted some opinions. I know that a couple of you suggested possibly throwing a Firemouth in the mix.
