hi i took out the tank divider last night and the convict wet after the jack denmpsey who he used to be abel to push around until he grew but now the jack dempsey opened his mouth and was chasin the convict away but this morning i woke up and the convict was terrorizing the jack and the jacks colors have even faded will it stop when the jack grows even bigger what should i do he like a lil bit bigger then the convict already?

how big is your tank and how big are the fish?

Its a 55 gallon and they r the only fish but both are around 4 inches the jack is alil bigger by like a few millimeters

PLEASE ANSWER I NEED HELP i dotn want to have to give any of them away i love aggressive cichlids also so the con is cool but iw ant my jack dempsey to be healthy and grow big in the last month hes grown over an inch

leave divider in tank and eventually the jack will get way bigger the the con and chances are when theres that much of a size diff the con will be afraid of the jack and the jack will be so much larger and not see the con as a threat.

cons and dempseys usually are pretty compatible, so I'd just leave it like that for now unless there are injuries or severe stress, but otherwise leave them together for some time to analyze the situation. keep the divider nearby just in case.

in my experiences... cons are like lil devils and the jacks ive had.... lets just say they are hide all the time and don't fight back

really it does depend on the fish...

Id follow fishgut's advice and keep the divider there

Convicts are WAY more aggressive than jack dempseys. Unless the jd is much larger, the convict is going to kill the jd.

a con that size is a full mature adult, the jd most likely isnt at that size. that alone is enough reasoning for the con to be able to kick the jd ass, not sure if the convict will be afraid of the jack when its larger, cons seem to forget the size they actually are (totally the size of the fight in the dog in this scenario)...but like fishguts said, put the divider back in till the jd some size, next time the con goes after it, it will be in for a rude awakening.
