Right now I have 2 convicts (male and female) in a 14g talk alone.

They are still quite small (roughly an inch I'd estimate)

I would like to move them into my 120 with my O's and JD. But they would definitely be the smallest fish in there. Largest O is I'd estimate at 5-6 inches.

Now, these two are the most skittish fish I've seen! As soon as the light goes on in the tank and I go anywhere near they are off under a rock or other hiding places.

I want to build up their confidence, especially before moving them in with the "big boys"

I was thinking of throwing in some guppies into the 14g. I don't mind if they get killed (sorry if thats mean) and those that survive I can use to breed to have feeders.

Would this work?

IME there probably just skittish because there so young, once they grow out a couple inches they will most likley turn into the typical con bully behavior. I would wait until they grow out a little bit before tossing them into the big tank or give them alot of hiding spots. The guppies most likley will be destroyed in time :nilly:

Yeah I am planning to leave them in the 14g till they are a bit bigger, was thinking till about 3 inches.

Just worries me that they are so skittish and they are alone.

I would say its due to them being so young, and if they were newly added could just be adapting to their surroundings.

I think they will come around for you :D

I have never owned a Con that didnt overcome their stage fright and turn into a total "Con" type of personality that we know and love lol

I threw three in a 55g with my male grammodes. One male and two females, funnily enough the male had the slightest orange markings so i thought i may have had three females. Until he's fathered 6 spawns combined. Currently guarding his fry from Grammodes and other less aggressive tankmates heh

If you keep your cons together long enough to grow to 3inches, you'll soon have babies. I have 2 pairs (2.5-3inches in size) that both gave birth after only 3 weeks together. One pair is in an 18g tub and the other is in a 20g. It was my intention to do this so it was more of an expectation than a surprise.

Doh failed to mention the Convicts were about 1-1.5" US inch heh

And now the larger female and Male are about 2.5". The smaller female is about 2" and has spawned 5 times.

They will grow out of it. I have 2, 1inch cons in a regular 20 gallon and they are the same way.
