So, I bought 6 cons of Kijiji about a week ago and just threw them in my 80 gallon growout tank for a few days until I got a couple more tanks set up for them to breed in...the guy I bought them from said he hadn't had them breed yet so I figured I had some time. I was gone for two days and I come back and my tank was litterly a warzone. Both females had paired of with a male and had eggs layed on either side of the tank defending them to the death, after 2 days. So theres my Balas being chased back and forth, my FSG floating in the middle and my Lungfish hiding under rocks trying not to get hurt. Those little 2-3" cons tore my 10" lungfish apart pretty good.

So anyways, I was wondering when I can move the cons into breeding tanks since the have young? or does it matter? and how long after they spawn will the spawn again?

Thanks,
Grant

Well Grant, I suppose you can move the cons and their eggs into breeding tanks if you want, but it’s top notch entertainment watching their parental behavior! But if you have a strong attachment to the fish in your community setup, it might be wise to move them, but it’s your decision.

If the fry remain with their parents, the parents will continue to protect them until they can fend for themselves. Might be a few weeks, maybe a month. But when they spawn again, the older fry will be dithers. If the fry are removed, expect them to spawn again in a few days.

Were talking convicts the most prolific spawner in the world. You can move fry or eggs with the parents now.

lol hes not joking about breeding again in a few days lol
