I have male convict that has a filament like growth from the middle of his tail. He was born in this tank and always had it since I can remember. it does not bother him.Anyone else have any similar mutations?

That's a convict? It looks weird. And that growth might not bother him but it's bothering me. :yuck: lol j/k.

If I am seeing this correctly, it looks like an extension of his trailers in his tail. Some bettas have this trait.

is it a hybrid convict?

Plenty of convicts get this. Wild ones too. Mostly large adult males. I don't have any photos at hand, but they're out there.

I don't think I'll cut it off but I am sure it would not hurt. He was born in this tank. The picture is bad because I need to get some good glass cleaner. My wife but some earth friendly stuff that leave bad streaks.

It's perfectly normal for adult males to get trailers like this. one of My convicts has them on the top and bottom of his fin. makes it look like a lyre tail.
