My WNB pair of Os in their passion decided to start cleaning the same rock, where one of my convict female dug a pit for her fry. She tried to chase them away, but Os at first didn't pay attention to her. Eventually they had enough of her and one of O has bitten her head of. They left the rest of the body untouched. Tough lesson.:(

I had a smallmouth bass in an aquarium about 15 years ago with a breeding pair of convicts. The bass kept getting harrassed by the convicts. One day when I was watching them I went out for groceries, came back, and the bass had eaten both of the convicts, and there was a convict tail sticking out of his mouth. I guess I should have known better.

Sorry for your loss. I had a grammodes do the same thing. I think you'd call that "sending a message".
