does anyone know if ..once a female lays her first set of eggs..but i think the male didnt fertilize them..so would the female try n mate with another male?

easier way to put it..can i take the male out n put in another male with my female n expect them to breed? or no?

he might or he might kill her. let the pair try again with any fish sometime the first spawn doesn't work out. :D

Yeppers, it WILL happen. Do lots of water changes and feed them plenty. They will spawn.

:iagree: it will happen. try talking to them, i have been told it works...

i was thinking of getting a pair yesterday, just something to spawn while I'm waiting for all my other cichlids to spawn, but i didn't.

Huh???lol.......Anyway you put it, convicts breed like rabbits........ANY male and ANY female WILL breed within two weeks together........Females are noted by their bright red to yellow bellies......After the first day, fertile eggs will be dark red........After the first day, infertile eggs will remain white............The infertile eggs will become surrounded by a fungus and WILL pollute the water, so take out infertile eggs RIGHT AWAY..........

*update* now that i did the ol switch a roo lol..i dropped in a new male convict..and now her tubes are out a little..they're cleaning the pot..im hoping for the best

Good Luck!! Trust me it will happen.

It's very unusual how cichlids start spawning. It's actually interesting and yes fertilization is a word, the male has to fertilize the eggs after she lays them.
