Would this combo work in a 150 gallon tank with other cichlids and possible breed or am I just too hopeful?

well that's a very broad question...will they work with "other cichlids" in a 150. well the answer is a definite yes...they would work with other cichlids in a 150. they would work with firemouths, other convicts and many other medium or even large sized cichlids.

However, what other cichlids do YOU want to keep them with? ;)

Oh, and if there is a male and a female then yes the odds of them breeding are about 99.99999999999999999999999% ;)

Yea that was kinda broad. I guess first I was asking if they would breed together even with the size difference and second yeah if they would do fine with larger cichlids.

I was too anxious to wait for answers and I went ahead and put the tiny female into my 150 with the 4" male. After just a couple of minutes they found each other and the male almost immediately started dancing and brought her over to 'his' flowerpot. Not sure if they would really make a good couple yet, because I've seen her get chased around by other cichlids when she strays away from the flowerpot and the male hasn't been very protective of her and doesn't seem to care unless it happens near 'his' flowerpot. But I have my fingers crossed, it would be cool to have them breed in a cichlid community type tank.

BTW in the same tank I also have: 6" oscar that I had just rescued, 6" green sev, 5" giant gourami, 3" rd, 5" nicaraguensis, 5" delhezi bichir, 10" ropefish, 6" rb pacu. Most of these fish were given to me or I had rescued them from craigslist and I do not plan on keeping them all together in there forever.

they will breed....

Its big enough to be a natural environment for them to do well in... my two flowerhorns breed right after i did a massive water change...

they will.. just be sure to scoup up the eggs and place it inside a 10 gallon.... a 150gallon is too big for the fry.. assuming u have other cichlids in there..

The females gonna get eaten at that size.

will work with most set-ups I have a mixture in my 150 because they don't stop breeding. if your thinking of using fry as food good luck. The parents are very protective and they are fast. Some will get eaten but before you know it you will be overburdened.

They'll certainly breed but whether they'll be able to raise them is another story. It will supply your tank with a snack every once in a while though. What size tank do you currently have?

just saw the tank size after rereading.

Thanks for all of the replies. It would be nice if they could provide some feeders, but it would also be nice to see some grow up. Either way I'm just hoping see some little ones soon.

As for the female being gobbled up, the only fish with a big enough mouth is the oscar, but he doesn't seem to even notice her. He's more interested in establishing himself as the top dog in the tank.
