I got a male and female convict from lfs, at least I think, one has a reddish-orange belly, and blue under the chin and yellow at top of body by fins along with the normal markings, the other is very plain with the normal markings and none others, the colorful one keeps going under my driftwood and moving the sand to make a pit, and when a dead plant stalk fell into the pit, it picked i up, moved it and dropped it... they are both staying by the driftwood. Breeding behavior??

most likely . . . whenever my fish are getting ready to breed, the first thing they do is re-arrange everything in the area they are going to lay eggs in . . .

yep mine always dig little pits in the tank they are breeding in they herd their babies there at night. they ususaly make them a few days before the eggs hatch sometimes before they lay eggs

my convict bred with a carpintis, so it's not a perfect comparison . . . but basically what they have done is gotten very territorial, i.e., they won't let any other fish into their side of the tank, but all they do is drive them off, they don't go looking for trouble

even as I type this, they are "flaring" with the big male port cichlid they share the tank with . . . it's a 90G, and they've basically divided it in half on their own

they get very agressive the ripe my oscars LIP OUT!!!! he is under recovery right now i was mad!!! :swear:

Yes that definatly sounds like breeding behavior. They tend to get very aggressive towards others during this period so watch out for the other tank mates if there is any.

Good luck with the babies, hope they do well.

ya you are bound to have babies very soon!! have fun they are now cause they babt MACHINES!!! seriously haha lol have fun :grinyes:
