I was wondering if keeping a pair of firemouths and a pair of convicts in a 29 gallon tank for half the year would be okay? They would spend the other half of the year in my backyard pond.

If either of those pair spawned it would be mayhem on the other pair.....

Ditto...and it won't be if when con's spawn, it will be when they spawn.

ive done this and have run into many problems if you do deiced to keep 1 pair of cons and 1 pair of fire mouths but a divider up to keep each pair safe

As jaws said, it would be rough to do. A divider would be needed and you may find that you would have to divide the males from the females or possibly just seperate the female con from the rest.

Also another problem will be what you will do with they hundreds of fish that you will end up with at the end of the summer.

firemouths need a larger space themselves than a 29 cons can do well in this space i would never keep anything with cons in anything under a 75 imo they should only be kept in pairs i dont like seeing aggresion in any of my tanks

I had something similar....breeding cons one on side, breeding jewels on the other. It was carnage.

learned by my mistake!

The 29 is winter tank for my convict cichlids for now. They spend 6 or 7 months of the year in my pond. They just come inside in the 29 when it gets too cold ;)
