I hear now and again that convict cichlids are great feeders for rbp, is this true? And if so how nutritional? Id assume a lengthy quarintine period would be wise. Thanks alot!

They are great feeders, especially when you know what you feed them. You can give them a high quality flake and pellet and they will be very nutritious. Vary their diets, i fed my convict fry spirulina, blood worms, nls, krill, mysis shrimp. It's really up to you to make them yummy for your fish. And I agree with mav, way better than goldfish

I don't pay close enough attention to them now to tell you. I've got 3 breeding pairs. The one set is in the O tank so Fry don't last long from them. The others I Empty the fry when their about 3/8-1/2" Maybe 1 tank is ready every month? Give or Take...

Wow great info guys!!

Im assuming its the most common cichlid? Or the cheapest? Its still kinda expensive to feed half a dozen 4-6" rbp 8-10 convicts!

They breed like roaches. Set up a few 10G tanks with sponge filters a terra cotta pot and a pair of convicts each. Then set up a 20g with a couple of sponge filters to use as a grow out tank. You'll have a steady supply of feeders in not time.

you should roughly get atleast 50 surviving fry per pair .. so the more pairs the more food :)
