Ive noticed in my 75gallon tank that when my convicts werent breeding, male and females were constantly bullied by practically every fish in the tank. Some of the bullies were larger, sum were smaller but anytime a convict showed itself it was chased by 1 fish then another every where theyd go. I was wondering why this was? Do the other fish hate the convicts from how aggressive they are towards them from when they breed and the territory they take up? Im just curious if any1 else has seen this behavior before towards convicts. Both the males are rather large but when they are not breeding they are pure cowards.

Ive since moved all the convicts from the tank but 1.

Convict males 1 is 4 1/2'' and 1 is 5 1/2''
3 Females 2'' to 3''

Bullies

6'' Female Jack Dempsey (to be expected)

Two 4'' Firemouths
Two Africans 5''

Convicts were picked on even when these bullies were much smaller than them aswell

Each fish has their own personalities, but looking at your fish list they all have potential to be really mean. JDs and africans definitely, and firemouth are known to be very mean when they want to be.

What I found is that convicts aren't really all that mean at all if they don't have any support, and if they don't feel comfortable. One of my larger, massive convicts used to be bullied before by a much smaller SGT. Not really sure what you can tho.

My male con is pushing 5 or so inches, and is a big time softie. I house him with a school of huge tiger barbs and a cae. On the flip side, I have a small female con in her own 20 gallon, and recently added a cae in order to keep the glass clean, and in less then 12 hours, the cae vanished. I looked all around, and it seems that my con chewed the cae in half and buried its remains in the sand. My point is that fish are as different as people, to each their own personality; different strokes for different folks.

Now I'm actually quite taken aback by your 5.5 inch con getting bullied by a 4 inch firemouth. I have a firemouth, and I admit they can be mean, but if any fish calls them on their aggressiveness and stands up to them, in most cases the firemouth will be on the losing side.

I can certainly see your Africans bulling your con. Some africans, like the kenyi, are straight up homicidal!

I guess dempsey's get aggressive as they mature. I have a juvenile jack housed with a female con, a firemouth, and a rainbow shark. Actually, the rainbow shark chases the jack everywhere, but the jack bullies the firemouth and the shark gets bullied by the firemouth. Weird dynamics I tell ya! The female con runs the show.

the 2 firemouths i believe they r both males. they actually team up and will fight fish together. to me it seems like cons and firemouths are arch enemies and cant stand the sight of each other
