So this whole breeding cycle has been very fast for my convicts. its their first batch together and is only about a week in since i found the eggs. the baby cons are now free swimming, how long will i leave the babies with the parents? i know when the parents are ready to spawn again, theyll likely eat the babies. 1 week? 2 weeks? ive taken 5 out so far and am raising them myself. ill eventualy be putting them all into a tank of their own.

Id also like to ask about feeding the fry. I bought some frozen baby brine shrimp. Its in the little cubes. I know they will only be able to eat this for a little bit so how much do I feed and how often? Do i just squirt some into the group with a plastic syrgine? How long till they start to look like convicts?

i leave mine for like a month with the parents and then take them out

K...Ill deff leave them to the parents for at least a few weeks. Theyre all going to be feeders anyway. I may start another pair up (from different parents) and try to breed more selectively for fun. Will brine shrimp help them grow faster? My tank has a lot of visible junk above the sand, is this "ditrus", spelling is off im sure. theyre eating it like crazy. Everyday I pull a few from the parents and add them to a cup. The cup is in the tank and sits so the water comes into the cup but no fry can escape.

Fry will eat almost anything. They will graze on detritus on the bottom or algae on the side of the glass. For the brine shrimp, do as you said. Just squirt it near them, they will go for it. Feed at least twice a day if not more in small quanities.

Wait however long you want to wait, they will have eggs again when they feel their kids are old enough to defend theirselves, most times at least. When they lay eggs again, take the fry out whatever age they are. The adults will defend against the newest set of fry, and will easily kill the older ones.

Doing a good job so far.
