okay well i baught a pair of convicts the female is around 3in and male is 3.5-4in and they had babies and know there is alot floating around there very small my question is should i isolate the babies in a 20gallon grow out or should i keep the babies with the parents and if so for how long? will the parents lash out on the fry and eat them? what should i feed them if i isolate them what are some good temratures? should i use a filter or a airstone? would no filter be a better choice? thx for your help i just dont want to kill them all lol

Before anyone can suggest what you should do we need to know what your goal is...

Convicts are very common and most stores won't accept them for cash/credit...

When I want to keep as many fry alive as possible I seperate them from the parents the first day they are freeswimming and feed them live hatched Baby Brine Shrimp. Sponge filters work great for fry tanks as they will not suck up babies while doing a decent job at collecting debris...

If you just want to keep a handful then it's fine to leave them with the parents. Not all of them will get eaten, but some will. New parents make mistakes... but as they get more experinece they will keep more alive.

Whatever you decide to do don't worry too much if things don't work out. They will be spawning again in 3~4 weeks...

^^^^^^I AGREE^^^^^^^^^
Every spawn I am blessed with, I always seem to have a least a dozen or Albinos....Keep the white ones.....

Lookout...you will soon be overrun with these guys and you can't use them as feeders because they are too darn fast!

Not in my house.... I feed 4"ers......What are your plans?
growth rate depends on you...I do not feed my fish a lot of food, but I HAVE to feed my fry a ton...That is a key. That being said, water quality is also key...

nutcase prettymuch nailed it

as for how fast do they grow... all depends on how much you feed them and how good their water is... the more and better.. the faster they will grow.. however there is a line between feeding them a lot and overfeeding them..

to an inch with healthy water and regular feedings they should reach an inch in about a few months. cons make great parents u can leave them in there for quite a while.

I am considering breeding convicts as well.
is it easy getting a breeding pair?

do you need special foods for the babies, if you leave them with the parents?
if so, what else besides baby brine shrimp (and what do you mean when you say feed them a TON?)
