i bought a male and female convict about a month ago, they're in a 55 with a few barbs and tetras. i thought cons were suppose to be like rabbits and breed all the time, but i havent been able to get them to. the temp is 79-80 degrees, the have slates flower pots and others decorations to lay on but they just wont. any suggestions?

how sure they are male and female? what are their sizes? after like 4" they will breed

they had them in seperate male/female tanks, and my friend who has bred cons confirmed the sexes. 4" are you sure? ive read of them breeding at smaller sizes. im gonna be pissed if i gotta wait 2 more inches.

Haha. Thats probably why. I used to breed cons when i first got into the hobby. i bought 4 (2m 2f) and once i saw which ones paired off, i moved them to another tank, or vise versa. It only took about a week so...good luck

mine bred around 2 inches. Give them time. I found water changes always help with the mood if you will. Also, I found giving a meaty meal seemed to help with things too. That's just something I noticed. I could be way off, but that's is what I think helped mine start. It could have been a coincidence as well haha

i was thinking of going and buying another pair. but there's 5 tetras, 3 barbs, a crab, a pleco, and the 2 cons in the 55, i dont wanna throw too much in there

Bump up the temp to about 85. Small water changes everyday. And feed them a variety of foods. I feed mine frzn bloodworms, beefheart, flakes, and pelets on a rotation for about a week and they started breeding.

mine just laid eggs lasnite and the female is like 1.5 inches i would do a water change and then raise temp to 82 for a week it always works for me.

maybe you could post some pics right. before breeding time the female will usually turn real nice colors

would it be a bad idea to get another pair?
