Feeder Fish

Bred a bunch of convicts in a 10g tank, started to have too many so I fed some to my bigger fish. Only a few were left and two had babies. The tough cookies were standing off to every fish that went near for a few days, till the babies went missing. I just thought it was sweet to see them at only a inch or two big attacking the oscar which is bigger then my hand.

Convicts seem to win on sheer tenacity. When they decide to defend something, they go full out until whatever they're attempting to kill off swallows them. :grinno:

Keep an eye on your oscar - once the convicts get a foothold and realize they can run the tank they can do a bit of damage to fins and scales.

I've been stealing convict fry left and right to feed my dempseys, great snacks. :naughty:

My cons attack anything that goes in their tank when they have fry. I've heard of little 2" cons standing up to 10" oscars. They got eaten, but still. :) Mine regularly attack siphon tubes and fingers when I'm cleaning their tank. Not so bad when they're 2.5", but I can imagine it is going to start hurting when that male gets up around 6". ;)

They definately get the prize for most defensive parenting.

Usually my female is trying to get the fry hidden, she's only ever attacked once. The male is always right there waiting though. When the rigid airline I use for a siphon gets 2" into the water, he's already hitting it, every 5-10 seconds the entire time it's in there. If I need to put my hand in he will do the same thing to it. Always on the back of the hand too where the skin is softer. :irked: Hasn't drawn blood yet, but I imagine he will eventually.

Guess what..lol I found my gar(who I have no idea how long he is now) and my green terror with nips and frays on their back fins!! The nips are too small to be anyone else but the convicts.
But weird they have no fry right now to be so territorial? or no they are just like that?

They are probably guarding the spawning point, apparently they think that stump decoration is theirs.

nice looking pair.
