Convicts with jewels

I've got a 55 gallon tank with a breeding pair of convicts (3"). I have been looking for other stock for this tank. I was told I could get a pair of jewels cichlids aswell asking as I put a line of plants in the middle to divide the tank. Is this true?

i wouldn't put african in with yours i would try to keep central,south american cichlids in your tank. They will be aggressive toward others when breeding but you could have some other things with them in a 55g.

What would you recommend putting with them then? Or is it too hard having fish with breeding convicts

You wont know until you try, luckily they are cheap so if it doesnt work try something else. I think it will work just fine. As for not mixing africans and SA/CA it really doesn't matter unless you are adjusting you ph or messing with your water attempting to mimic natural habitat.

just my opinion i would say firemouth or something on those lines. Also have hiding spots and i would put around four to five fish total. If you only put one in with the pair they will pick on it.

Would it be easier if I got rid of one of them to tone down aggression then just have a nice aggressive cichlid tank with a single fish from a few species?
