i dont know but u guys might. why is my convict makin holes in my sand? is he ready to breed if so do i need a female smaller than him? he is in a 30 gallon with a 6 1/2 poly sen bichir.

Many cichlids rearrange the substrate. He is just making himself at home.

Cons are quite easy to breed, so you will likely have success if you put a female in there. However, the Poly would likely eat any fry.

Yeah, if the cons let him near them. I wouldnt breed them in a 30g with any other fish as you risk injury.

the con an bichir get along real well. the con follows the bichir around everywere. but idk why he would start to make holes now an not wen i got him. an the con can make the bichir stay away when he wants to cause he does it when he makes the holes in the sand.

but the way i read on a nother website is the way to go is to get a female smaller than the male or the male has to be smaller than a female?

As already said by Angler, the con is just making his territory. That is why he keeping the bichir away when he digs his pits. It also explains why he is doing it know because he comfortable in the tank now.

typical cichlid behavior, nothing to worry about, just make sure its not hurting the tankmate

hes not hurtin the bichir. i got a female for him an they both like each other so now she stays inside a large cichlid stone an the male patrols the outside like thers eggs inside the rock.
