i have two convicts in a 50g with two jack Dempseys and a red devil. i am trying to breed the convicts. any idea how?

Do you have a pair? Females have red bellies. They will most probably spawn without much intervention, but the dempsedy and rd might end up eating the eggs/fry.

females have colored bellies red yellow orange it doesnt matter its a female! and i agree the red devil and jd might eat the babies

Yeah, females have pinkish/yellowish bellies. If they pair up, it should be extremely easy to breed them. I have a similar setup and the convicts have mated in several spots in the tank. They just need a good surface on the inside of a cave like structure. I personally use two pieces of slate leaning against each other.

ok and how will i know when the female is ready to breed because my male is always ready to breed because he is always a dark black

Give them a cave, like a flower pot. They will begin to dig in the gravel and lay eggs in there.

i dont think convicts turn black when they are ready to breed

really i read on aqualandpetsplus.com that males turn "jet black" when they are ready to breed

Not a reliable way of determining if it's about to breed. If you really want to breed them, give them their own tank with a cave.
