ok i just got my new cons yesterday and i want to know how long till i can expect eggs.

First of all, be sure they are male and female. And please, tell us, how big is the tank? What is the temperature? And what do you feed them?

If they are male and female and are mature, then you've probably already got eggs:grinno: No, really once they get adjusted usuually it will happen pretty quick.

they are in a 29 gallon tank, 81 degrees ferienheit, with a pleco and guppy fry, i feed them hikari cichlid staple, sinking shrimp pellets, and will try worms soon.

pretty soon i would imagine

like 1 week maybe two
:D

good luck

well how do i know when they are about to mate???

mine do it every two weeks. its like clockwork.
i dont know when they are about to/ i just find them every two weeks guarding a nest

What are some signs of Convict breeding? Over the last two days, I've upped the temp from 78 to about 81, been feeding high quality flakes and sticks, and have left the light on for like 12-14 hours everyday to watch. So far, the male's fins have gotten almost jet black around the edges, and he seemed to have made a little crater-shaped indent behind a rock. The three females in the tank have colored up, and one spends time in the male's crater, but I haven't seen any eggs or any other behavior. There's 3 females and 1 male in a 55 gallon with plenty of caves to spawn in. Anything else I can do to further the process, and what should I keep an eye out for?

For easy convict breeding: Place cons in a bag. Shake well. Pour fry into tank. Repeat.
