i've been feeding my fish raw, frozen, peeled and deveined market shrimp for some time now and they love it. Is it ok to feed them the same thing but cooked(boiled)?

people say cooked is not good for much more than filling their bellies but it was too late for me by the time I heard that I had already been feeding my fish cooked and peeled for years and now I'm having a very hard time getting them to eat the raw shrimp.

The fish who eat the cooked shrimp are healthy though....just could probably get a much better growth rate from em if they would eat something else.

Shrimp in general isnt the best thing to be feeding. It should make part of the diet, though. I use shrimp only as a treat, and feed once a week. The Staple of my fish's diet is hikari sinking carnovire pellets. Also feed Algae wafers fairly often along with pellets. Sometimes I substitute treats with beefheart, raw hamburg, shrimp, a feeder, or whatever else i have my hands on. I have rainbow trout filets, Havnt tried feeding altho its worth a try

I feed everything raw. Mussels, shrimp, smelt, smelt eggs.

Raw hamburger is very very bad and very messy. As far as hikari/pellet food as a staple for some of us it's just not economical as we'd be using at least a whole bag if not a couple bags per day. And for the big bag of Massivore it's like $20.00

I feed shrimp as a main staple and don't see a problem. I wouldn't feed cooked shrimp if you have a choice.

Any cooked or frozen seafood is NOT the best thing to feed your fish if you can help it. If your fish are already used to raw seafood I would keep it that way because (as you may already know) when you cook seafood you significantly reduce its nutritional value. Shrimp is fine to feed out, but if thats all they have been getting I would add a few other things to give your fish a more varied diet. Personaly, I would also make sure the raw seafood is slowly thawed and not totally frozen when you feed it out.

hehe now we're not supposed to give our fish anything from the seafood section in the market?LOL that blows, but hey, rules are rules.......:(:screwy:

any suggestions for an economical replacement?

My fish chomp up frozen shrimp no problem...I'm curious, what are the reasons this is unhealthy for them?If you thaw your shrimp at all your going to lose nutrients, slow thaw only loses less.Seems to me if your fish will chomp it up frozen you are ensuring the least amount of nutrient loss possible.
