A page I like to check from time to time to see if there's something new... Alf Stalsberg's page, which is who Andinoacara stalsbergi are named after. It's an interesting resource in terms of where he found stalsbergi vs. rivulatus gold saum and in his documenting part of the story regarding confusion over which was the true rivulatus. Never mind 'true' vs 'false' green terror, which is a somewhat contrived debate, as I've posted before, considering a lot of people have the history confused. It's easy to do since even among the experts there was confusion or disagreement for years. As Alf states on his page, for some time he contended that gold saums were not rivulatus (which was the real debate years ago, not which could be called a green terror), but as he says "But I had to change my mind later." Gold saums have been confirmed as rivulatus and the fish he thought was rivulatus (and which some older books and articles called the 'true rivulatus') have been classified as stalsbergi.
The bottom line being "green terror" is a nickname that's been applied to more than one fish, one fish doesn't have a more official claim to it than the other. The real question, now settled, had been which is the true rivulatus. One of the best articles I've seen to explain much of that is
this one by Wayne Leibel. More people should read it so they can get a sense of the history and stop with the 'true' and 'false' green terror notion.
Especially note carefully the 1982 article by German aquarist Uwe Werner: Auequidens Rivulatus-- The Green Terror That Isn't. What can be confusing is the 'green terror that wasn't' is what is now
stalsbergi, what some imagine to be the 'original' or 'true' green terror, BUT-- this was back in the day when stalsbergi was thought to be the
true rivulatus,
in other words the 'green terror that isn't' was stalsbergi and the true green terror according to Uwe Werner is what is now the true rivulatus-- what Leibel calls in the article "the gold edged green terror" and "the white edged green terror". Basically he calls all three fish (white edged rivulatus, gold edged rivulatus, and stalsbergi) green terrors or green acaras. Considering Leibel is a PhD biologist and long time cichlid writer, this and the history would seem to make some of the 'true' and 'false' green terror statements on hobby forums a bit... let's say superfluous, to use a gentle term.
