Well, In my 75g wich is 48x18x18 I'm putting One Jaguar Cichlid, One Vieja Argentea, and One Lima Shovelnose catfish...

*EDIT* just recognised you said planted... You could still have a Lima shovelnose in there. But I would put crenicichla like rob said as they wont bother the plants.

I'm putting a few cheap plants in my tank such as elodea, but if your heavily planting the tank with exspensive plants and whatnot, I would not get a CA/SA cichlid besides some sort of Crenicichla.

yea but his is planted

Because Discus love high temps of 84-86F your better off choosing fish that suit those temps. Such as Rams or Cardinal Tetra's.

Usually in a 67G (4ftx18x18) you could have, say 4-6 Discus, plus a school of 12 cardinals and 2 Rams. Perhaps a few otto's for the plants.

In my 75 I have 4 cory's, 3 ottos, 6 silver dollars and 12 tiger barbs. I really like the activity level and think the silver dollars look great. The problem is the silver dollars will likely destroy all your plants and barbs are too nippy for a lot of fish.

If I were going planted and chose not to do Discus, I would have like 6 cory's (they are a lot of fun to watch and you can mix up different varieties), 6 angelfish (3 different pairs), a few rainbow fish, a couple of shrimp and a school of some kind of tetras along with several ottos to keep the algae down.
