Thanks... now that i look at it, i can see the proboscis. Moths dont have that right?

Some moths do. Easiest way is to look at the antenna. Moths also have a small hook that attaches the front wings to the back.

i was under the impression that the dead give away between a moth and a butterfly was the resting position of the wings.

dont butterflies rest with wings vertical and moths rest with wings horizontal to surface they are resting on?

i am by no means a taxonomic expert on butterflies and moths tho haha

I tink you are rigth! At least the "regulars" butterflies and moths can be distinguishi in that way...
