I was reading a book from our library called The Piranha Book don't know the author. There was a story about a man riding along the piranha river and his horse got startled and fell into the water. A school of piranha's came and ate the horse and the man to the bone!!!. It is a sweet book and if you need anything to know about any kind of piranha's this book will tell you all what you need to know.

to my knowledge. no human has ever been killed by piranhas to this date, there has bene counts of "dead" bodies being eaten after death tho. so thats probably false. i believe the horse tho
Chances of piranhas killing and eating the man and the horse is pretty unlikely. Piranhas are opportunistic carnivores meaning they will go after sick or dying things. More or less they are scavengers unless they are starving. Although that would be really cool to see! 
I have come across one report of a human fatality from piranha that was from a reliable source. I read about this years ago (1978 or 79) in a medical journal. A teenaged boy recieved a single bite on the inside of the thigh while swimming in the Rio Negro, he got out of the water but bled out on the dock.
That same year we had a young GI die from being bitten just below the armpit by a large gar he was trying to boat, he also died from blood loss.
While looking for piranha related deaths this morning I found a strange article in a 2001 issue of the New Guinean newspaper ANGFA/NEWS reporting two deaths due to introduced pacu, Both were of net fisherman who were in the water nude and were bitten on the genitals, again blood loss was the cause of death, Ouch!

saw this show on national geographic or discovery, cant remember, but bottom line the guy had there his whole life, in the heart of p country, had never heard of anyone eaten and did not even now any natives that had ever heard of anyone being eaten, they swim bathe and drink in the rivers every day. no casualties or even injures due to p's
OK, these guys are retarded, fishing nude, your beans and the frank dangling in the water like bait! fish love a free easy meal, they dont care what you dangle infront of them, they bite, bottom line, save your life, wear a freakin swim suit!
3 posts in a row, i know ima dork, but gotta share this, i know a guy who was washing his dive suit out in the water after a freshwater scuba excursion, a bass or a bull head or something bit his c@ck, no kiddin, latched on and he screamed like a little girl .... same guy one time said "wierd rock" and was standing on it, and messing with it with his feat, finally goes under to grab it and comes up with the huges snapping turtle ive ever seen, freaky man, coulda lost a toe or foot so damb easy. but yea he did get bit on the privates by a bass. we still some times say "remember the ass bass" lurking, searching, attacking, scaring the hell out of peeps dumb enough to go in without armour.
