Hi I just discovered this and thought I would share. For those of you stuck without a battery powered air pumps and the power is out this could help.
So I had a bunch of lava rock lying around and my 20g high has hardly any decor so I just stuck some in and air bubbles were fizzing out like crazy. For the first few minutes it was floating, then it sank and 15 minutes later its still throwing out air bubbles! About 2 bubbles per second after 15 minutes, it was originally around 5 bubbles per second.
I believe with a HUGE piece of lava rock you could potentially get several hours of oxygen.
Also on a side note, MY CONVICTS HAD BABIES!
