I'm currently growing out some Gymnogeos that I would eventually like to set up a breeding/biotope tank (most likely in my empty 75) for. They are from Uruguay and require fairly cool temperatures (~70F) as well as seasonal temperature cycling for breeding.

So far for tankmates, I was thinking of Corydoras paleatus as they range into Uruguay and can take the cooler temps. Does anyone have good ideas of a tetra or other characin that is from this region and/or would do well at these temperatures?

Any ideas?

buenos aires tertas might work
I was thinking about them. I've heard they can be a little nippy and aren't they plant eaters? I'd like to make it a planted tank

Panda Tetras, Aphyocharax paraguayensis, are smaller and cool water.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll keep my eye out for those. They seem like a good choice.

Any other ideas?

I just found a place that has them and they are having a HUGE sale starting Friday, so I'll probably head back and pick up about a dozen then (along with a handful of other fish)
