Ok, so being myself I was stupid and didn't do too much research whenever I bought my LSN. It's been in my 10gal until I can get my TSN out of my other tank, and I recently saw it doing this against my small volcano I have in there...

I was looking at him all weird and knew I had to do some research. So I went on to my computer and looked a little on the internet (praise google, right?) and came across a site that told me this...

"In the wild, the Lima shovelnose catfish spends much of its time moving about the bottom of rivers and tributaries looking for small crustaceans and fish species to consume. Lima shovelnose also position themselves vertically near tree roots and similar structures waiting for unsuspecting fish to swim nearby."

I thought that this was just sooooooo amazing. I've never heard of any kind of fish doing this, period. Learning that he wasn't doing this because he was retarded put THE biggest grin on my face ever. Coolest thing I've ever learned about any fish. Ever. Had to share with somebody, got me really excited about getting to see this awesome fish grow.

Makes me more excited to get one! Cool picture, I didn't know they did that myself. I wonder how often they do this in captivity?

Mine does it quite often actually. In the 10gal he did it so often I thought I wasn't feeding him enough :P Now that he's in the 55 corner he's doin a lot more swimming, there's a pretty decent current and he loves to swim in it :P

nice makes me want one

Yeah they're really cool and have a great personality. Not terrified of you when you come up to the glass at all, just when they see a net come into the tank

I have a Chocolate cichlid myself that is a insectivore/herbivore. He always has his tail low and his head high (almost even standing upright) looking up at the top of the water, almost always. Reading up and finding he's an insectivore, I figure instinctively he's just looking for bugs on the surface.
