We have 4 copadachromis geertsi we are trying to breed need some advice. First how big do they need to be. Second what tank dimensions work best and third what kind of aquascape. Right now they are in a 150g 5ft tank with sand bottom and caves and a rock pile with a ledge. Also is there a good food to feed them to encourage breeding?

I used to keep these, and new others that kept them and had them spawn. I don't think they will spawn before 4"-6". Your tank should be big enough if they are kept alone, or at least they are the dominant species in the tank. These guys are utaka, they are open water feeders so that would be phyto- and zooplankton. When I want my fish to spawn I fed a higher amount of brine shrimp eggs (decapsulated) and kept up on doing waterchanges (weekly, 40-50% at a time).

Thanks for the info ours are not that big yet so will keep waiting. The male have to be one of the best looking fish I have seen. Did you notice if they likked a brighter oor dimmer lit tank I know our male really colors up at night.
