I have one male and one female borleyi cichlid since long time in a mixed mbuna tank. now each is around 12 cm. they didn't attempt to mate till now. what can i do to encourage them to breed ?
should i put them in separate tank or so ?

Good water quality and a good staple diet will encourage them to breed, Also it helps to have species only tanks so aggressive fish like mbuna will not interrupt there breeding. And there really not a pairing fish, so adding a couple more females will also help.

the issue is I can't find other females of the type. and other mbunas are breeding well in the same tank.
if I decided to breed them in a separate tank, what size should it be ?

I would go with a 4' tank like a 55 gallon. 1m/5fm. Dave rare fish always has females and he has quality stuff. I would recommend ordering online from him.

just move them to a separate tank and they will breed... when the female is holding remove the male... and then when female spits remove the female...{ i do anyway} not always nessasary but it is safer... then just grow out babies where they are... i wish you were closer ..i have alot of females i could give you...
